Pregnancy Massage

Just Massage is a trained and insured provider of pregnancy massage, a highly beneficial, gentle & relaxing complementary treatment for deep relaxation which can be used safely throughout the second and third trimesters of pregnancy (14 weeks onwards).

A full consultation prior to your massage is carried out and together we then design your perfect treatment.

An average pregnancy lasts 40 weeks but every woman is different and every pregnancy is different.  At a time when pain relief can be limited, massage can help with a variety of symptoms such as restless legs, lower back discomfort, carpel tunnel syndrome, nausea and sleeplessness as well as providing much needed relaxation and well-being time.

You will need to be into your 2nd trimester to receive a massage treatment (due to UK insurance regulations). In addtion, with respect to Covid-19 concerns, we are only treating people with no other underlying health conditions.

Types of Massage

In our peaceful and private treatment room, the super comfy, extra- wide and soft heated massage bed together with a selection of bean bags, pilllows and cushions will make you sink into a calm and meditative state in no time at all.

Back massage can be provided in an extremely comfortable seated position and full body massage is given in the most wonderfully nurturing postiion on your side, made supremely comfortable through the careful positioning of pillows. Lying on your stomach or back in the latter stages of pregnancy is not good for either you or the baby!

You may prefer to have a different kind of treatment such as the meditative Natural Lift Facial Massage which is a little like Reflexology but for the face!...an incredibly relaxing and perfectly safe holistic treatment that will leave your whole body feeling deeply relaxed. And Thai Hand and Foot massage is another popular holistic treatment. Combinations of all or part of these therapies are all options and can be worked out according to your needs on the day.

People come for massage for different reasons but some of the reported benefits during pregnancy include:

  • Relaxation - massage during pregnancy helps to stop the build up of tension, especially in the neck and shoulders. Tension in the lower back, caused by the extra weight of the baby particularly in the later stages of pregnancy, can also be alleviated.
  • Feel Uplifted and Revitalised - massage increases the flow of endorphins and minimises the fatigue often felt at the beginning and end of pregnancy.
  • Improve circulation and stimulation of lymphatic drainage - especially important because of the increased tendency to retain fluid in the ankles and feet.
  • Maintain skin suppleness and elasticity, helping to prevent or minimise stretch marks which often appear around the fifth month.
  • And very importantly... massage induces a feeling of well-being, helping to keep you relaxed and in harmony... perhaps the best preparation for the birth!
  • Relief of aches and pains that can be caused by distended ligaments and the tendency to cramp.

Hormone surges, nausea, morning sickness and extreme tiredness can be helped by being kind to yourself...warm relaxing baths, lots of sleep and peppermint or chamomile team can also help with morning sickness. If you are suffering with constipation, perhaps ask your partner or a good friend to rub your lower back in a gentle clockwise direction!

Once you are into your 2nd trimester (weeks 13 to 26) you can start to massage your belly, breasts and thighs with a good quality massage oil to prevent stretch marks. In your 3rd trimester (weeks 27-40) the extra weight puts pressure on the back, legs and feet so professional massage can help with any discomfort and swelling as well as general relaxation, rest and peace!
